You have about 1000 X more control of the look of your 3D text and shadows. Personally, I would have converted the camera move, lights and text layer to a C4D comp, done my extruding and shadow catcher there, then use C4D Lite and Cineware to do the final composite. You can do this by arranging your workspace as shown then just using the pickwhip to the camera in the main comp. If you did need to animate the camera in the main comp you'll have to add another camera, then tie its movement to both cameras in the nested comps using expressions. In this tutorial we cover the easy method for creating 3D text/shadows in Adobe After EffectsNo third party plugins requiredSubscribe to the channel for mor. I have the transparency on the layer you mentioned. The layer i am trying to add the drop shadow to is the image on the left of the first screen shot - as you see there is no drop shadow (and still isnt after i press ok on these settings). Turn off the temp background in both layers, on the top comp (Comp 1) turn off the shadow catcher, on the bottom comp turn off the extruded text, set the top comp as an inverted Alpha track matte for the shadow catcher, then turn the layer back on, set the blend mode to Multiply and add your background. However, in either of these settings - the drop shadow doesnt apply to the layer at all. Drop both comps in your Main Comp and open up both nested comps. Now duplicate that comp in the project panel. BTW the C4D renderer is a better choice but the setup for Ray Traced is the same. In summation, if effects aren't behaving the way that you'd expect, try re-ordering them in the Effect Controls panel.Set the 100% white shadow catcher solid so accepts lights is off, accepts shadows is on, duplicate the extruded text layer, set the duplicate to cast shadows only, Here's a comp with everything shown that is modified. Then adjusted rotation underneath the Transform Effect in the Effect Controls panel, we would have the shadow spinning in place. However if I click and drag the Transform effect so that it is over the Drop Shadow effect in Effect Controls, The changes are reflected immediately in the PDF document opened in Acrobat Pro. After making changes in Illustrator: Save: Close. If I adjusted rotation under the Transform Effect we would have the same result of the shadow following the spaceship. Acrobat cannot do that, but Illustor can: Open the PDF with Acrobat Pro, select the text block using the 'Edit' tool, right-click: Edit using : Illustrator. Right now the Transform effect is beneath my drop shadow effect in the Effect Controls panel. I have the main comp set to classic 3D, tried the options on the so. I pulled the that comp into another comp and put that text on top of a solid layer with a light to give the shadow affect. I'll reset rotation back to zero and find the Transform effect in Effects and Presets and apply it to my spaceman. So I made the text a 3D layer in a previous comp, ray-traced 3D with light to give my text the look I want. Instead of the shadow staying in place and rotating it stayed on my spaceship's right wing. I rotated my spaceman 133 degrees and ended up with the following results. ![]() I'll go in to timeline and twirl open to rotation and rotate my spaceman. My intention for this animation is for the spaceman to spin and for the shadow to stay in place and spin also. Click an insertion point in the document window and type the desired text. In the Character panel, select the font and other type attributes for the text. Obtain a quote for onsite After Effects training. Make sure that this new piece of text is selected, and this time go to Effect > Stylize > Drop Shadow to add a subtle shadow effect in Illustrator. Set the text color to R255 G245 B225 and place it as shown in the following image. Here I've applied a Drop Shadow effect to my spaceman and brought the distance away in the effects control panel. Pick the Type Tool (T) and add the ' BELIEVING ' text. The order of your effects in the Effects Control panel will determine how things look in After Effects.
